First TEC Experience: My first TEC was TEC 48 in Canton SD. It took a little coaxing from my daughter Jen and niece Jamie Vander Broek. I finally decided to give it a try. What an awesome experience! They do these TEC’s for the kids but if you really open up and let God work in your heart, He will bless you beyond belief. After that first weekend I was hooked! I don’t think I have ever cried and laughed so much in my whole life. It was so neat to see God working in these kid's lives. A couple of things that will always stay with me are, I worked with my daughter Jen and we got closer and a couple of kids that will always remain close to my heart, Becca Vande Griend and Jordan Van Dyke. These girls have such a big heart for God and are so much fun. We were all on support together and have also been able to work together at several other TECs. I got to know many other kids that weekend and get to see them occasionally. That first TEC is also where Jen started calling me BIG Mike. The name kind of stuck and its pretty cool when I see some of these kids at games or something and I hear, "Hey BIG Mike" I'll always remember that first TEC experience and those kids will always have a special place in my heart! | |
